Not your typical or mainstream artist, Shannon Guest is nontheless oozing with artistic talent and originality that easily partners with spirituality. Her existing website only brushed the surface settling for a "mystical" dark looking portfolio of her work. But nothing about Shannon is dark. In fact, she is all about enlightment...

Communicating Shannon's unique artistic services to the world became one of the most enjoyable challenges we've come across for awhile. This redesign would demand and exercise our design, layout, photography, copy writing, marketing, and (of course) web or technical skills in order to find just the right combination that spells S-H-A-N-N-O-N.

The Photography:

Capturing the essence of Shannon started with a photo shoot. While she is beautiful, there is so much more to Shannon than any of her existing photos had captured. I met with her one early morning and setup outside hoping to grab some lovely light from the dawn sun. We rummaged through her closet for just the right look and color.  Her essence seemed to really flow, come alive in fact, wearing minty green. Perfect for an outdoor tree-filled background!

While the sun never showed up due to heavy fog, the lovely filtered light lended the perfect mood. The results of this shoot actually set the tone and color scheme of the new website.

The Copy Writing and Editing:

Writing copy that would effectively reach Shannon's audience started with identifying her target market. While many people define her as a psychic, others may feel repelled by the stigma of "channeling" associated with this phenomena. It was essential to draw the line clearly, yet not exclude those whose comfort zones included the psychic realm. Another challenge presented itself... Someone searching for Guardian Angel paintings in a religious sense would certainly not be her target audience, yet her name implies this.

We studied, delved, experienced her service, researched keywords, and interviewed, interviewed, interviewed - until we found just the right viewpoint to convey. Shannon epitomizes unique but we couldn't let that limit her viewing audience, nor could we broaden the scope to the point that her bounce rate would soar.

All the copy written on the Guardian Angel Portraits website, with the exception of the actual "message" she received regarding the purpose of her site, was provided by our copy writing team of experts.

Special Features:

ART GALLERIES: Shannon Guest's portfolio of artwork not only needed to be accessible and easy to manage, but presented specifically where applicable. The fact that her art is rendered in both oils and pastels (with a striking difference in price and delivery) we felt it necessary to showcase only related examples in each section of her site.  For instance, someone looking for a pastel portrait need only see examples of other pastel portraits. Then again, someone underdecided needed to see both! Shannon also offers oil paintings for sale which were not part of the custom portrait service... We created unique galleries accessible in topic-specific areas of the site that pop-up in an aesthetic lightbox for closer inspection.

APPOINTMENT BOOKING: While most people will be ordering their custom portraits to be delivered by mail, those located in the Cincinnati area may wish to make an appointment for a personal sitting. Shannon's schedule being quite diverse, we installed software that will keep the booking process flexible yet simple. She can indicate what days and times she is available and even block out certain dates that still coincide due to art show appearances, expos, festivals, or vacations.

CALENDAR: For those people interested in visiting Shannon when she is appearing at an art show or expo, we included a simple event calendar.
