Dagaz Acres Zip Line Adventures and Leadership Center specializes in outdoor eco-adventures and team building low challenge courses. I paid them a visit at their beautiful facility in Rising Sun, Indiana, to see what they needed and if we could help them.

Although they already had a website, it needed some sprucing up. That was the original reason owners Patrick and Lori Noonan gave us a call. But aside from design considerations, one of their primary goals was to be able to maintain their own website or, at the very least, be able to perform simple updates and add photos or videos to their gallery. It was easy to see that they definitely needed a CMS, and Joomla would fit the bill quite nicely.

So we took on the project of transforming this popular destination's website into a sleek and modern Joomla CMS website.

The Re-Design:

As in most cases, the "redesign" of DagazAcres.com is actually a new website build. Other than a third party reservation system that they already owned, there was nothing but copy to salvage. (And we would only be linking to the reservation system.) We also decided to retain the green color scheme but in a much more natural hue. We combined it with light gray and cream neutral tones and used black and dark grays for contrast. Now it would have a modern or trendy feel yet still communicate the message of fun and outdoor adventure.

Restructuring of Content and Presentation, Copy Editing:

The content on the old Dagaz Acres website was combined on a minimum number of pages. In other words, there was lots of scrolling going on! Most pages were very long and topics were combined rather than focused on a single idea. We broke it all apart, edited the copy, and created several smaller pages with focused topics. And in doing so, the navigation of the site made for easier use by visitors.

Photo Gallery:

We installed an extension that allows the website owners to pull in photos from Picasa, Flickr, and other popular places. It has several modes of display including a lovely carousel of photos that we featured on the group packages page. This particular script can be used as a module or plugin so individual pages can have their own galleries relevant to the topic. Best of all, the owners only have to upload photos once to their favorite online photo place and then their site can bring them in from there.

Social Site Fan Page Buttons:

Dagaz Acres has a popular presence in the social sites. And it's no wonder! Many of their visitors take pictures and want to share their experience with other Dagaz Acres fans on Facebook. We installed universal "social" buttons in the header that would make it easy for visitors to go to their Facebook fan pages, YouTube account, or follow them on Twitter.
