Professional Copy Writing for the Web

Print Email

Professional Web Copy WritingStaring at a blank page is no fun! Laboring over all that web copy writing yourself - and still not getting results - is even worse... But it is not surprising really.

As a small business competing in a land of corporate mega-advertising budgets, your website's content can single-handedly level the playing field. How your web copy is written and organized can either make or break you (see Content is King and our Writing Content section), so let us help by writing professional, web optimized content for you.

Even if you consider yourself to be a good writer, there are plenty of reasons why you should hire web copy writing experts like us to write your website copy:

Reason #1: Writing for the web is DIFFERENT than writing for business journals, newsletters, advertisements, etc., because...

A. People don't read online copy the same way they read printed materials. Your web copy has to be written and formatted in such a way that your visitors will be compelled to read it.

B. Search Engines don't know how to read like a human at all, so they decipher your message based on what they are programmed to understand. Without "insider" knowledge of what this criteria is, it simply won't matter how well your copy is written - no one will find your website to read it anyway.

Reason #2: Writing content for your website is DIFFERENT than writing a brochure about your business because...

A. Your website should be a full representation of your business online rather than a brief overview of your business and offerings. It is a destination rather than an advertisement! Ask yourself how you would feel about XYZ company if you looked them up online and all you found was a tiny advertisement or "brochure site" prompting you to call for more info. Would you? It is absolutely true that prospects look you up to qualify who you are. They want to see if you're credible and worth doing business with. Then they will call you.

B. Writing web copy that is Search Engine Optimized must be combined with Visitor Optimized copy (written with the visitor in mind), a technique irrelevant to brochure copy writing. This takes a full understanding of how search engines work, what visitors are looking for, how people read online, and more.

C. How people search for you and how search engines interpret your content, requires that pages on your website be focused on a single idea rather than several topics combined on one page. This means that every aspect of your business needs to be broken down into pages that have been written and Search Engine Optimized (SEO) for each particular topic.

Reason #3: Writing for the web is DIFFERENT than writing anything for "print" because...

A. Writing web copy has its own warm style designed to capture and hold the attention of the reader - without seeming unprofessional. It is a delicate balance that if used on printed material would seem amateur at best. And so it goes that if you were to write web content like "formal" printed materials, your bounce rate (people arriving and leaving on the same page) will likely be very high. Not good.

B. You can keep adding new web copy to your website and SHOULD! Unlike printed materials, your website content is never really finished. It is something you need to add to your website continually. If you're thinking that this all sounds a bit extreme, consider the benefits of having many pages of focused web copy:

The greater number of focused pages you have, the more likely visitors will find exactly what they're looking for immediately - and STAY longer. If they stay longer, they will be more likely to convert.

You can promote these pages of valuable information on your Facebook fan page and other social media sites regularly. Not only do people respond favorably to helpful information, this will also create more "back links" to your website. Back links are of the utmost importance to Google!

Every page on your website is another doorway into your website. Would you rather have 50 doorways, 100 doorways, or are you happy with only 10?

You will save money by utilizing organic search (free!) rather than resorting to pay-per-click or other risky, expensive methods of online marketing. The more you feed the search engines fresh, new, focused content, the more likely your website will rank well in the natural search results.
