Joomla Extension Installation and Configuration

If you've already built your own Joomla website, are you struggling to choose which third party extension is right for you? Or even worse, do you even know what an extension is let alone how to set it up?

Joomla extensions (aka components, modules, and mambots) are plug-ins created by third party companies or individuals that execute a specific task not included in the Joomla core files. Examples include a photo gallery, calendar, game arcade, glossary, even shopping carts. There's literally thousands of these extensions available. While most of these are free, those that are not are almost always inexpensive to purchase. And what they can do to transform a Joomla website is nothing short of amazing!  That is, if it works properly.

In our experience, we have found that not all extensions do what they say they will do. The developers are usually testing their work on the open source community, soliciting vital feedback to help them improve their software. This means that installing and configuring third party extensions may or may not go off without a hitch. 

Sometimes modification of the extension files is necessary, sometimes a conflict with another extension can cause glitches to occur. In all, experience in using the forums, in modifying PHP files, and just good, old fashioned patience is required to make these extensions do what you need them to.

That's what we do. We know many of the authors either personally or by reputation, we know our way around the forums so that help is speedy and accurate, and above all, we are willing and able to take the time to even rewrite some of the code if that's what it takes. We don't know it all, but we know a lot.
